Vermont Cheese Council

The Vermont Cheese Council, an organization dedicated to the production and advancement of Vermont cheese, is based at the Mad River Taste Place. This gives us unique access to hard-to-get cheeses and new offerings from their member cheesemakers, over 50 in total, who operate throughout the state.

Spreading the Word about Vermont Cheeses

Because most Vermont cheesemaking is done by small-scale artisan businesses, the Makers are focused on consistently producing high-quality cheese. For most of these entrepreneurs, there isn't time left at the end of the day to build their brands and market their products across the country.

That is where the Vermont Cheese Council comes in, serving a vital role for cheesemakers in our state. In addition to hosting educational events for the public and food professionals to learn more about the art and science of artisan and farmstead cheeses, the Cheese Council has a presence at major cheese events held throughout the United States. This is an efficient way to introduce the rest of the country to our amazing Vermont cheeses and to create new market opportunities at high-end cheese counters in major metropolitan areas that otherwise would be inaccessible.

Each year the Vermont Cheese Council hosts one of the most popular summer events in Vermont, the Annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival held at the Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms. This is an event you won't want to miss!
