The Mad River Valley is much more than a tourist destination. Over 4500 people call "The Valley" home and it is a thriving, active community. Most people choose to live here for the lifestyle and are willing and eager to share it with fellow Vermonters as well as folks visiting from outside of our state.
Come for the Mountains, Stay for the Valley
An expanding segment of our local economy is food makers and growers. Thanks to the hundreds of acres of farmland that have been conserved in the Mad River Valley, land is affordable for young farmers. Conserving the land keeps it in food production rather than being developed. Excellent, high quality locally grown food ingredients have provided inspiration to food entrepreneurs to start businesses making cheese, butter, charcuterie and distilled spirits.
The mountains, the river, the grazing dairy cows and corn fields create breathtaking and ever-changing scenery year round. We would love for you to visit us and see (and taste!) for yourself.
